Richard Varnerin

Richard Varnerin

Varnerin, Richard J. of Watertown and Magnolia, MA and Killington, VT passed away peacefully on June 7, 2018. Born to Amelia A. and David A. Varnerin of Watertown in 1947, Richard attended Mt. Trinity Academy, BC High School, Tufts University and Tufts Dental School, graduating with honors in 1973. He began his dental career with Dr. J. Murray Gavel; later joining Norton Dental Associated in Norton, MA and the Boston Center for Oral Health. Dr. Varnerin, or “Dr. V” as he was called by both colleagues and patients is dearly missed. His professional skill and manner, relaxed charm and easy wit were among his many endearing qualities. An avid skier, Richard enjoyed the mountain settings of Vermont and Utah, sharing the best of times with the dearest of friends. Equally at home on the ocean, he was an undaunted wind surfer, paddle boarder and kayaker, while following a routine passion for speed bike touring. His boyish enthusiasm for life, his love of photography, classical music, nature, art, theatre and “The Economist” magazine singled him out. To know him, was to only want more of him. Those of us left behind will scarce be able to reconcile his leaving.
Richard is survived by his husband, Peter Mullen of Maynard, MA, his brother, David Varnerin of Chicago, IL and a lifetime of dear friends.
