John A. Locke, III SUMMERVILLE - John A. Locke III, 136 Corsair Street, died Tuesday morning, January 4, 2011, he was 72. Born in Somerville, MA, he was the son of John A. Locke and Thelma E. Locke and the brother of Annie Z. Parker of Holliston, MA. A gifted artist, Mr. Locke served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Tufts University, Rochester Institute of Technology, and attended the New York Theological Seminary. He was a retired Professor of Fine Arts at SUNY-Ulster and served as pastor of the Tillson Friends Community Church. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Joan Ann Locke, sons John A. Locke IV of Summerville, SC, Whayne F. Locke of Poughkeepsie, NY and his daughters Lara Locke of Kingston, NY, Nora R. Locke of Maplewood, NJ, and Lilith Hart of Rochester, NY. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Tinora Locke, Raymeus Davis, Melanie Locke, Micalah Locke, Robyn Hart and Samuel Hart. John enjoyed serving as president of the Lowcountry Woodcarvers, and was an award winning member of the Summerville Art Guild. (Published in the Charleston Post & Courier 1/9/2011.)
