Diana and I were roommates - and classics classmates - our Sophomore and Senior years. (Can you believe Intro Ancient Greek at 8:00 am?) She roomed with Dede Connor (later Altvater) for their Junior year in Italy. I tagged along with Diana after college while she began advanced degrees at the U of Minnesota. Already having Spanish, Latin & Greek, along with the Yiddish her grandmother spoke, she taught herself German so as to read their research materials and modern Hebrew for when she worked on digs in Israel. She was a special person who, sadly, stopped communicating with any of us after several years. It was a sad surprise to find her name among our In Memory listings. I'd hoped to find her and bring her to our 50th reunion next year and am terribly sorry won't be able to. Please, others who knew her, post memories. Blessings.

I was Diana's roommate in 1967-68 in Naples, Italy, where we were with the Tufts In Italy program.  We also traveled for 6 weeks after classes ended that year.  We couldn't be gone longer because I came home to get married to my Tufts sweethears, Don Altvater (T67).  Diana was in our wedding party in August, 1968 but I never heard from or saw her after that.

I have very fond memmories of that year.  I recently printed some photos from slides taken that year and have made a small scrapbook.  Then, this summer, my daughter shared a box she had of my old stuff and it has many mementoes from that year--our menus from the S.S. Michaengelo, which took us to Naples; tickets; playbills from our visit to London on our way home (where we saw Judi Dench starring in the West End); and postcards.  I see another scrapbook in the offing. But, the best thing was a photo of Diana and me at a T-I-I reception.  I also have a photo of us before the San Carlo opera in Naples--see below.

Thanks so much for adding the picture of you & Diana!  I still miss her a lot.  And greatly regret not going to Italy with the two of you.

She was at my wedding to Bruce Hall in 1973 and we saw each other a few times after that but then stopped communicating with any of us Stratton friends.

I remember Diana from days in Stratton Hall and have fond memories of her humor, her smartness and her intelligence.  I was so sorry to have lost touch with her.  I had never heard of Taunton before I met her and now I have this image of Diana and a retired greyhound out strolling!

Diana was a good friend for a group of us in Stratton Hall all four years. She and Nancy Parsons roomed together the whole time and with Janet Barker and Marcy Leiser and Jean Bao, we were looking out for each other and enjoying sharing music (The Beatles and The Mamas and Papas). I took some classes with her in the Classics department and I think we learned Ancient Greek together. As Nancy said, we lost touch with her after Tufts when it was harder to keep up with communications. I have only fond memories of her as a friend.

Diana died April 26, 2009, following a12 year battle with breast cancer. She's buried in the Harmony Park section of the Mount Nebo Cemetery in Taunton next to her father. She is the last member of her immediate family.

Diana was such a bright, dedicated student - and a fun-loving friend as well.  We miss her. Thanks, Nancy for finding out more information for us.

And MANY thanks to Janet Barker Shea who went with me on my trip to Taunton as we tracked down Diana's information and hosted me before, during and after our Reunion!
